Help. Doing some last minute revision.

Mind has gone blank. How do you write x+8x-5 in the form (x+a)+b ?

Thanx.

for x+8x-5
half the number in front of the term in x. ie 8 becomes 4
write (x+4)

when you expand (x+4) you get x+8x+16

You do not need the 16 but require -5 so -21 from the 16

so x + 8x - 5 = (x+4)-21

Hope that helps.

Good luck today!
