Hi,

Can someone firstly advise if there is an easy way to understand Maths please? @ 38 I'm retaking my Maths GCSE as I'm considering a career change & feel this would benefit. I can vaguely remember the old way when I took it as a CSE but things have moved on since then.

Ratios, can you anyone help me with this one please?

A petrol company carried out a fuel consumption test and found that the winter to summer ratio for the same car over the same test track was 3:5:4. The winter fuel consumption rate was 8.2km per litre. Find the summer consumption rate.

Many Thanks

Get a good teacher/tutor and text book.

The ratio is confusing. Should it be 3.5 to 4 if so

dividing 8.2 km per litre represents 3.5 parts so dividing 8.2 by 3.5 gets the value of 1 part.

i.e 8.2/3.5 = 2.34285...

Now you require the summer consumption which is worth 4 parts so multiply this last answer by 4
2.34285... x 4 = 9.3714... litres per km.

Sorry Katie it should be 3.5:4. I as so tired of it last night I gave up in the end.

There's about 20 of us in the class & there seems to be a few who have there own way of learning which confuses the hell out of me. We're learning from Edexel GCSE Mathematics.

I look into a question to much and when the teacher does ask do we all understand am reverting back to my school days & keeping quiet. At this moment in time I feel a failure already & am ready to quit.
